Frequently Asked Questions
What valuation methods do you use?
We use multiple approaches to triangulate your business's value: comparable sales analysis (what similar businesses have sold for), income-based methods (capitalizing your Seller's Discretionary Earnings at market multiples), and asset-based approaches where appropriate. Using several methods gives you a realistic range rather than a single number.
What is the difference between your free valuation and the online calculator?
The online calculator gives you a quick, data-driven estimate based on your industry and reported earnings. Our full valuation is a detailed, advisor-led analysis that accounts for factors the calculator cannot capture — your specific situation, growth trends, competitive positioning, and other business-specific variables. Think of the calculator as a starting point and the full valuation as the complete picture.
What documents do I need to provide for a valuation?
At minimum, we need three years of business tax returns. Profit and loss statements, a current balance sheet, and a list of assets included in the sale are also helpful. We will guide you through exactly what is needed during our discovery call.
How long does the full valuation process take?
From your first inquiry to receiving a completed valuation report typically takes 1 to 2 weeks, depending on how quickly financial documents are provided. The discovery call and data collection phase is usually the longest step. Once we have your financials, the analysis itself takes a few business days.
Why do different sources give different valuations?
Business valuation is not an exact science — it depends on the methodology, the data used, and the assumptions made. Online tools, CPAs, and brokers may each use different approaches or comparable data sets. Our valuations are grounded in real transaction data from thousands of completed sales, which makes them more reflective of what buyers are actually paying in the current market.
